ALFIE is a desktop injection moulding machine I designed for a competition for Design Innovation Plastics (DIP).
The Brief: You are invited to design an educational product in plastics. Your design should be original, functional and innovative, and above all, provide an engaging playful experience that stimulates divergent thinking and creativity. You can choose your target market, including their age and likely reasons for using the product.
ALFIE was aimed at students and startups it extruded glue gun plastic into a mould. The user could design their part and a mould would be designed through an online portal. It would then be 3D printed and sent to the user. They could then print multiples of the same part using ALFIE. The design was completely made of plastic to emphasise its versatility.
